COACHING PHILOSOPHY

Matt is a highly dedicated and experienced Strength and Conditioning Coach with a proven track record in long-term athletic development, performance peaking, and injury rehabilitation and prehabilitation. With extensive experience supporting academy, professional, and international athletes, he helps both elite and everyday individuals unlock their full potential through tailored, science-driven training programmes.

Matt is currently a full-time Strength and Conditioning Coach for the England Rugby Union Pathway. In this role, he works with U18 and U20 players, preparing them for elite competitions such as the U18 Six Nations, the Junior World Cup Series, and international tours. His focus is on ensuring athletes are physically and mentally ready to perform at the highest level of the international game.

Prior to his current role, Matt spent five years with London Irish Rugby Club as Head of Academy Strength and Conditioning. During this time, he worked across all levels of the club, from senior professionals to U18 players, and developed a comprehensive academy programme that nurtured some of the country’s top emerging talent.

He also held the position of Head of Athletic Development at Harrow School, where he led the athletic development programme at one of the UK’s leading independent schools. His work there helped foster athletic excellence across a range of sports, supporting young athletes to build the foundations for long-term success.

Matt’s vision is to create a world where everyone, regardless of their starting point, has access to the knowledge, tools, and resources required to achieve their athletic potential. Rooted in evidence-based practices, his philosophy is built on continuous learning, a passion for helping athletes thrive, and the belief that understanding an athlete’s goals, motivations, and challenges is the cornerstone of creating a world-class programme.

Through his SPI (Strength, Performance, and Injury) approach, Matt supports athletes to become stronger, healthier, and more resilient. His work is not only about improving physical performance but also about uncovering each athlete’s “why” and building a pathway to success that is tailored entirely to them.
