COACHING PHILOSOPHY
Tim OLY is an international hockey player and coach who has represented both Australia and Ireland at the highest level. With experience in some of the world’s most competitive leagues and tournaments, Tim combines his knowledge as an elite athlete with his passion for coaching and education. His background as a qualified PE teacher further enhances his ability to connect with and develop players of all ages and abilities.
Tim first represented his native Australia, earning eight international caps before moving to Europe to continue his playing career in the Dutch league. In 2019, he switched allegiance to Ireland and made his senior debut. He has since remained a key member of the Ireland men’s squad and was selected to compete at the Paris Olympics, marking a career highlight on the world stage. Tim currently plays for Hampstead and Westminster in the English Premier Division, continuing to compete at an elite level while balancing his coaching commitments.
Alongside his playing career, Tim has established himself as an outstanding coach. His experience across multiple countries and competitive environments has given him unique insights into the technical and tactical aspects of hockey. Combined with his qualifications as a PE teacher, he is able to deliver high-quality coaching that nurtures both performance and enjoyment in the sport.
Tim’s philosophy is grounded in his love of sport and his belief in developing athletes both on and off the pitch. He brings energy, technical expertise, and a player-focused approach to every session, creating an environment that helps athletes grow in confidence and skill. His goal is not only to enhance performance at the highest level but also to instil a lifelong passion for sport in the players he coaches.
